I spoke to IEEE Spectrum about our paper AI Agents Push Humans Out of the Loop with Margaret Mitchell and Samir Passi. Agent designs tuned for speed and volume leave human overseers overwhelmed and passive, so the oversight meant to keep people in control breaks down. We argue for adding deliberate friction to human-AI interaction and for designing workflows that guard against fatigue and overreliance.
