I spoke to Science about the shortcomings of peer review as a scientific quality guarantee — peer-reviewed venues have been used effectively as marketing tools by closed products (GPT-3 at NeurIPS, AlphaFold 3 at Nature). I pointed to the current “blogification” of research and the importance of sharing code and data: reproducibility matters more than whether you publish a paper or a blog.
